Yoga & Journaling

Why?

Journaling is a way of processing our thoughts. Just like with yoga, it can help to bring mental and emotional clarity. In yoga and meditation, we strive to let our thoughts pass without following them. With journaling, we follow those thoughts wherever they might lead us. Journaling allows us to explore them, and see what we can discover about ourselves.

It helps us to:

  • recognize our thoughts and emotions
  • helps us to process and respond to challenging times and events
  •  release anxiety
  • Recognize and reconnect with our inner voice
  • Learn about ourselves through reflection on our thoughts/emotions

What?

I always give options, and use a combination of different journaling styles, to encourage participants to find and explore the style that best fits them. This includes:

  • Free writing
  • List-making
  • Journaling Prompts (optional, but always provided )
  • Proprioceptive writing
  • Drawing/doodling
  • Morning pages

How?

We begin with breath, centering, and gentle warm-ups. An optional prompt is introduced, a timer is set and instrumental music is played. Participants are encouraged to use whatever journaling style(s) that suits their individual needs in the moment. When the time has ended and the music stops, there will be follow-up questions to be jotted down at the end of the entry.

All journal entries are for your eyes only.

We then let those thoughts go, and move on to gentle movement of our bodies through Yoga.
